If your Father loves movies, old or new, buy him some DVD's. If he likes old movies, a particular actor, or genre check the bargain bin at Walmart. You can find great movies for $5 or less.
Walmart also sells more recent hits for around ten dollars. Plan on spending $16 to $20 for a new release. Pay attention to whether you are buying a widescreen or full screen edition. Find out your father's preference. Widescreen is reformatted for the television screen, and cuts out none of the original movie. Full screen is created by a method known as pan and scan. The film is essentially re-filmed and the camera has to scan the original movie frame and focus on a portion of the widescreen. If you didn't know better, you probably wouldn't notice you were missing anything. If you don't want to miss any details, pick widescreen format. The two benefits of full screen are that they are a few dollars cheaper, and some people don't like seeing dark lines at the top and bottom of a widescreen.
Boy's Night In
Plan a guy's only night for your father and his pals. Create a brochure in
Microsoft Works. Plan ahead and invite some other dads over for the party night. Buy refreshments and plenty to drink. Pre-order the pizza and wings. If you are a son, join Dad and the guys. If you are a woman, grab some girls and have a girl's night out while the guys enjoy watching a ballgame or fight. If there's nothing on T.V. set up a card table and buy a couple decks of cards and some poker chips. If he doesn't like poker, suggest a game of hearts or spades.
Give that Man a Ticket
Most men love sports. Some men love all sports, others have a favorite. Buy tickets to a sporting event. Take Dad to the ballgame yourself. Buy the hotdogs, peanuts, popcorn, and beer. If your father's favorite team plays nearby, get tickets to a pro basketball, baseball, football, or hockey game. If college sports are his favorite, buy tickets in advance if possible. If tickets for his big game aren't on sale now, create an "I Owe You." Make good on the promise as soon as tickets become available.
WWF Wrestling tours the country year around. Depending on the event you can spend a few dollars, or hundreds. Don't buy floor seats for these events. Try to get the first row of risers for the best view.
If you don't think you can get your father out to a game, or match, order and pay for a pay-per-view of his favorite event. You can choose from boxing, wrestling, and championship games. If his favorite team plays nearby the games may be blacked out locally, and offered only as a pay-per-view.
